Summer 2025 Research Assistant, Brain and Cognitive Development Lab, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Dr. Dan Hyde is looking for an undergraduate research assistant for a longitudinal study in the Brain and Cognitive Development Lab at University of Illinois in Champaign, IL. The project uses functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and event-related potentials (ERPs) to examine the relationship between functional brain re-organization and numeracy in children from 3-6 years with a multi-wave, longitudinal design.


Duties will include direct data collection with young children using brain (EEG/ERP, fNIRS) and behavioral measures, managing datasets of various types (neuroscience data, behavioral data, and a participant information database), as well as some community relations and recruitment work.  


Applicants should have demonstrable experience and be comfortable working in a professional setting with parents and children, as well as have some relevant research experience and course work related to cognition, development, and/or neuroscience.  
The ideal applicant would have experience doing cognitive or cognitive neuroscience testing with human subjects. The ideal applicant would also be interested in continuing on an advancing in the lab as a research assistant in future semesters.


This position requires at least a 10-12 hour weekly commitment through late May to early August (although this is flexible). You can receive 290 course credit OR you can do this on a volunteer basis.


There are opportunities to continue on with the research and advance in the lab, including to be considered for Fall and/or paid positions, commensurate on summer performance.
