Infant-mom interaction

We seek motivated, detail-oriented students who are interested in learning about early social and emotional development while gaining valuable research experience. Undergraduate research assistants have opportunities to assist with a variety of tasks for studies of infant development, including behavioral coding of mother-infant interactions and editing and processing of child and mother ECG data. In a second set of studies, we are conducting interviews with early child care professionals, including physicians, social workers, and early intervention specialists. For these studies, students will assist with cleaning transcripts and potentially serve as note-takers during interviews. For all studies, students will attend weekly team meetings related to their research tasks and responsibilities. Students earn PSYC 290 course credit for their work in our lab, and we have a strong preference for students who can commit to 2 credit hours (6 hours per week) for two or more semesters. Students who stay in the lab for more than two semesters have opportunities to become involved in a variety of research activities as well as the option to complete an independent study or honors project. Currently, we have positions open for Spring/Summer/Fall 2026 terms.

For the Spring 2026 term, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and those received by  November 25th will be given priority. To apply, please contact Jordan Bodway (krwczyk2@illinois.edu).
