The Psychology Course Credit Participant Pool gives students who are taking particular Psychology courses the opportunity to participate in experiments outside of the classroom. Participating in the Course Credit Pool is meant to be an educational experience during which students will learn about how psychological research is conducted. All studies are in accordance with the ethical procedures established by the University Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Psychology Department's Human Subjects Committee (HSC).
The Psychology Course Credit Participant Pool is open to undergraduate students enrolled in Psychology courses on a voluntary basis. The Participant Pool is managed through an online participant management system called SONA. The SONA system offers 3 basic types of studies: 1) in-person/lab studies, 2) virtual/zoom studies, and 3) online studies. Each semester, instructors may choose if they would like their course to participate in SONA. If you would like your course to participate, please email the Subject Pool Coordinator (psych-subjects@illinois.edu) to request your course receive a listing in the system. For students enrolled in PSYC 100 (Intro Psych), SONA participation is a required component of student's overall grade.
