Sola Adeyiga Receives a New Departmental Research Scholarship

Date

The Advanced Research Opportunity Honors Scholarship is intended to enable research opportunities for students who face financial and time constraints that otherwise might prevent them from participating in the in-depth research process associated with completing a Bachelor’s thesis. This scholarship provides financial support over three semesters of undergraduate research toward completing a Bachelor’s thesis in psychology.

Sola conducts research in the CANOPY Lab under the guidance of Dr. Wendy Heller and Megan Finnegan. With aspirations to become a psychiatrist specializing in psychopathology, my focus lies in understanding the connection between emotions and cognition, particularly in individuals grappling with depression and anxiety.

She actively contributes to the underrepresented community as an Ambassador of the Office of Minority Student Affairs and as a tutor at the New American Welcome Center at University YMCA.

Sola engages with students as a mentor with Illini World TaeKwonDo. Sharing knowledge of martial arts and also delving into the fundamental principles of the discipline, enabling her to tap into her inner mantra and achieve a state of profound meditation.

When it is time to unwind, Sola enjoys crocheting while watching various foreign films.
