Welcome, Laura Van Buer!
What is your official job title?
My official job title is Academic Advisor. I work with undergraduate students in Psychology and Brain & Cognitive Science.
Where are you from originally?
I just moved to Champaign from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I moved around a bit as a young kid, but I have spent most of my life in Iowa until now!
What aspects of campus have you enjoyed the most so far?
I love the energy of a college campus. There is always so much going on, and it was fun to see the excitement around the marathon weekend, graduation weekend, etc. And the food. I really enjoy the food!
What are your goals as you get settled in the department?
I'm trying to learn as much about campus as I can so I can be a good resource for students as they navigate their careers at UIUC.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I love getting to know students, helping them learn about themselves, and working with them to reach their goals. Every student has their own set of unique stories, skills, and backgrounds. It is so exciting to work with students every day to discover their strengths and develop them throughout their time at UIUC to reach their academic, personal, and professional goals.
