Professor Alejandro Lleras and colleagues at SPARK recently helped organize a new initiative so that under-represented scholars at all levels (undergraduate, graduate, postdoc and faculty members) can submit their manuscripts or grant proposals and get a "First Review" by a well-established member of our profession, prior to submitting the work to a journal or granting agency. The idea is to provide constructive feedback that might improve the chances of their work making it past initial review or get funding. The initiative quickly gathered steam on Twitter and in a few weeks, more than 900 scholars signed up to provide "First Reviews"! SPARK also maintains a Scholars of Color Database, that lists minority scholars in Cognitive Psychology and Cognitive Science, with their domain of expertise. The goal is to help organizations like grant agencies, psychology departments, and professional conferences diversify their panels, meetings and presentations.
